Most of the novice designers think that the launch phase is the last and final phase of the web design process but they are mistake for the post launch phase follows the launch phase.
Some of the major aspects of the post launch phase are as follows.
When the project is completed and handed over to the client the business takes a U turn. Now the professional relationship between the designer and the client enters the post launch phase (the phase after launching of the website). Some of the most important things you need to take care in this phase is providing the instruction manual to the user and even provide training if found necessary. The source files need to be packaged and delivered to the client. Make sure that the client is made aware of all the niceties about the website. Try to guess the questions or the queries that the client may come up with and keep their answers ready.
Let the communication line remain open because if it is closed it is neither going to benefit the client nor you. On the contrary when the communication lines are cut both, the client and the designer can be harmed but usually the magnitude of this is more in case of the designer. If the communication lines are kept open the designer can offer services related to future such as maintenance of the web design and support if anything goes wrong and needs to be amended or changed.
When the project is completed and delivered to the client, he/she should be satisfied with the web design. The project is said to be perfectly closed when the client is happy and fulfills the obligations agreed upon and mentioned in the project charter. The transaction of the service and money is completed but the relationship should be maintained and continued.
No one can say for sure what is going to happen in the future. In case some accident should happen or the client wants some changes to be done to the web design, there should be something that can make the client’s life and that of the future service provider a bit comfortable. This is only possible when you provide the client with the details of the language code used and the framework. If possible, facilitate the client with a soft copy of the site map. When the designer offers this kind of service the client is supposed to feel good and have respect for the designer. This can create a referral market for the designer.
The last but the most important part of the post launch phase is getting the client sign the check. Be sure that the relationship between you and the client does not end with the financial transaction. On the contrary it is always better to continue and maintain the relationship by paying a casual visit to the client once a month with something new to offer (if possible).
